Teacher Development Program

The program aims to develop public school and higher education teachers; competencies in content, research and pedagogy based on the needs assessment.

Since its establishment in 2019, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UP Open University has conducted various teacher trainings and seminars which aim to improve the capabilities of teachers in delivering quality education. The trainings and seminars were conducted via blended mode; participants attend face-to-face meetings and online conferences.

Focusing on the subject matter Reading Remediation for Early Grades, Kinder to Grade 3 public school teachers from Bay and Los Banos, Laguna participated in this three-part training. Teachers from Cebu and Davao also attended the training program through video conferencing. The two sessions of the training were done on 28 October and 19 November 2019 respectively while the third session was conducted on 28 February 2020.

This three-part webinar series, conducted on 12, 19 and 26 August 2020, is a response to the challenges faced by the teachers in relation to the shift to online education. It aims to provide strategies to the teachers and parents in teaching reading to early grades (Kinder to Grade 3) students while staying at home. The webinar series was divided into three parts:

  1. Pagtuturo ng Pagbasa
  2. Pagtuturo ng Pagsulat
  3. Pagtuturo ng Pag-unawa

This webinar, conducted online on 22 July 2021, aims to help the teachers demonstrate the ability to apply and practice read aloud as a strategy. Teachers from partner schools of Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UPOU in Bay, Los Banos Laguna, Bataan, Cebu and Davao served as participants.

This webinar aims to provide online resources relevant to teaching Elementary Reading and creating assessment materials and other supplementary teaching materials (e.g worksheets). Participants include Grades 1 to 6 teachers from the partner schools in Bay and Los Banos, Laguna, Bataan, Cebu and Davao.

In continuing the commitment of the office to provide teacher training relevant to classroom instruction, the office conducted a hybrid Seminar on Applied Behavior Analysis on 16 March 2024, from 9 am to 12 noon, at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL) Auditorium, UPOU Headquarters and via Zoom. Topics covered during the seminar include the discussion of ABA as an evidence-based Intervention to improve academic skills and the process of acquiring ABA certification.
