The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) collaborated with the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód University of the Philippines Open University in conducting a workshop on Therapeutic Communication on 27 February 2023. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format. A face-to-face and an online session was simultaneously held at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning Auditorium (CCDL), UPOU Headquarters and online via Zoom.

Twenty-eight (28) proctors participated in the event at CCDL while four participants attended the workshop via Zoom. The workshop aimed to provide the proctors of OSA with basic knowledge on therapeutic communication and teach them to practice its techniques and strategies that shall be beneficial in their interaction with their examinees.

Asst. Prof. Queenie Roxas-Ridulme, Director of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UPOU, and Asst. Prof. Ria Valerie Cabanes, Program Chair of the Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) were the resource speakers of the workshop. Asst. Prof. Cabanes presented the topic on netiquette while Asst. Prof. Ridulme discussed effective verbal and non-verbal communication. Efficient verbal communication was emphasized and provided other examples of modes of communication which exhibit therapeutic communication approaches.

After the lectures, an activity on the application of therapeutic communication strategies and techniques was organized for the proctors depicting common scenarios encountered during exam administration and proctoring were presented by the participants through role play.

Dr. Ria Mae Borromeo, Director of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), on her closing message, congratulated the participants on finishing the workshop and emphasized its significance in the effective administration of online examinations.
