Buhay Pahinungód aims to raise awareness of disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) and build a resilient community through the conduct of a needs-based orientation seminar on DRRM.
In 2019, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UPOU conducted an orientation seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in two barangays: Brgy. Tagumpay in Bay, Laguna and Brgy. Malinta in Los Baños, Laguna.
The seminar held on 27 October 2019 at Brgy. Tagumpay, Bay, Laguna focused on flood hazard and disaster preparedness. Apart from the lectures on these two topics, updating the barangay profile, hazard mapping, and conducting needs-assessment and community-based flood mapping were also some of the activities conducted by the barangay officials and residents. The UPLB Climate and Disaster Risks Studies Center (CDRSC) served as the partner institution for this activity.
An orientation seminar focusing on the community and household disaster preparedness and survival was conducted at Brgy. Malinta on 13 December 2019. Considered as a flood-prone community due to the bodies of water surrounding the community, this activity was conceptualized based on the observations of the barangay officials regarding the lack of knowledge of the residents on the topic of flood preparedness.
