Volunteer Training and Activities
To further equip the volunteers and prepare them for deployment, training sessions are also conducted. These sessions are designed to equip volunteers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to serve meaningfully and effectively.
Call for volunteers is being done in different ways, including publishing an announcement post in the office’s official Facebook page, posting in MyPortal, email blasts, etc. Posters and other publication materials on the call for volunteers include the basic information on the volunteer application, such as the orientation schedule and contact details of the UPOU Ugnayan ng Pahinungód.
General orientation is conducted for volunteers as part of their preparation for capacity-building and training. This orientation is essential for all UPOU Pahinungód volunteers, as it provides an overview of the organization and introduces the various programs, projects, and activities they can participate in.
Note: There will be two general orientations that will be conducted every January — one for new volunteers and another for existing volunteers.
Program-specific orientation is conducted to familiarize volunteers with the particular details and requirements of the program/project/activity they will be involved in. This includes a session on navigation of the MODeL platform.
The training entitled “Volunteerism 101: Pahinungód Volunteer Capacity-Building and Training” is designed to provide both new and continuing volunteers with a foundational understanding of volunteerism, its principles, and the ethics of volunteerism. It aims to deepen the participants’ appreciation of their role as Pahinungód volunteers while enhancing their capacity to engage in online and service-oriented activities. Additionally, this will discuss how effective project management contributes to community development.
Training Objectives:
- Instill a strong foundation of volunteer ethics and develop an understanding of responsible and inclusive volunteering.
- Enhance facilitation skills and deepen the understanding of group dynamics to manage and engage with diverse groups effectively; and
- Equip volunteers with basic project management and community development skills to foster equitable and inclusive volunteer practices.
In addition to the certificates awarded after each engagement, UPOU Ugnayan ng Pahinungód holds an annual culminating activity and appreciation program for its volunteers. Held in celebration of National Volunteer Month, this event serves as a meaningful gathering where UPOU Pahinungód volunteers come together to recognize and celebrate their year-long contributions and engagement. It also provides an opportunity for the final reporting and presentation of all programs implemented throughout the year.
Meanwhile, graduating UPOU student volunteers are awarded with a Pahinungód pin, which is done during their graduation ceremony as a symbol of their service and commitment.
