Protecting Animal Welfare (P.A.W.) Project
This is a program on managing campus animals that take shelter in the premises of the University. This involves ensuring the campus animals are given the utmost protection from inhumane conditions while at the same time protecting the UPOU workforce from unwanted diseases that can be brought about by these animals such as rabies. This program aims to highlight that animals and humans can coexist harmoniously in one community.
This program aims to provide a community where animals and humans can coexist harmoniously in accordance with RA 8485 and RA 10631. Specifically, this program aims to:
- Provide adequate food, water, shelter, and care for campus animals while under the care of the UPOU Community;
- Control the population of the community animals through TNVR; and
- In the event that a community animal needs special care, give the community animal a furever home through adoption.
We have volunteer feeders coming from the different units and offices in UPOU. They are tasked to feed the animals every 11:00 in the morning and regularly check the conditions of the campus animals. If you are an employee, student, or alumni in UPOU and want to be a volunteer feeder, you may register to this link: https://forms.gle/9yXZYUEfAVY4AdZ97
The project is also conducting a donation drive to raise funds for dry cat and dog food and the neutering/spaying of the community animals. We are accepting in-kind donations, whether it is dry food, canned food, treats, cat litter, chewable dewormers, and others.
