The Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UPOU held online and in-person meetings with Rural Health Units (RHUs) in Laguna to introduce and promote its newest course entitled, “Online Mother’s Class on Newborn and Infant Care.” In collaboration with the Office of Gender Concerns UPOU, the course aims to equip pregnant, first-time, and postpartum mothers with essential knowledge and skills in caring for their newborns and infants.

Led by Dr. Queenie Ridulme, Director of Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UPOU, together with the Pahinungod staff, a total of 19 RHUs were presented with the course details. Assistant Professor Rita Ramos and Assistant Professor Regine Bagalanon, both nurses and faculty members from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) also joined the face-to-face meetings with RHUs in the municipalities of Bay, Calauan, Los Baños, Lumban, Kalayaan, Paete, Pangil, Pagsanjan, Nagcarlan, Magdalena, Liliw, Cavinti, and Luisiana which were held last September 9 and 18.

The Online Mother’s Class is a free, self-paced course that will run from October 21 to November 21, 2024, via the UP Open University’s Massive Open Distance e-Learning (MODeL) platform. This pilot offering promotes the well-being of mothers and their children in Laguna and encourages responsible parenting and a positive attitude toward motherhood.
